Piano Graduate Yong Sue Yi wins second prize in Malaysia's inaugural HSBC Classics Piano Competition 2008
Fresh graduate piano major Yong Sue Yi was the first runner-up in the HSBC Classics Piano Competition 2008 held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre from 7 to 13 July 2008.
This is the first-time ever a piano competition is incorporated in the HSBC Classics festival. Designed to continue raising the bar for young pianists and to provide a platform to showcase their talents, this competition is open to Malaysians under the age of 26.
From the 33 applications received and after 3 rounds of intense competition, Sue Yi impressed the judges with her performance of Mozart¹s Piano Concerto No. 13 in C major, K. 415 and emerged as the second prize winner in the finals on 12 July.
A student of Albert Tiu, Sue Yi graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music with a Second Class Honours (Upper) in Piano Performance. She is currently on a full scholarship pursuing her Master of Music (Piano Studies) at the Peabody Institute, John Hopkins University.
